You make the call: How far can the Falcons go?

Falcons wide receiver Taylor Gabriel dives over Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson into the end zone for a touchdown and a 31-13 lead during the fourth quarter in an NFL football game on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, in Atlanta. The Falcons beat the Cardinals 38-19. (Curtis Compton/Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP)

Today’s AJC featured a little missive from yours truly regarding the growth rate of the Atlanta Falcons, who are — fess-up time — surprising the heck out of me. I figured they’d go 7-9 or thereabouts. They’re 7-4 with three home games remaining. They’ll have to mess up royally to miss the playoffs.

In that same little missive, I stated my belief that the Falcons would win the NFC South and be a tough out come the playoffs. (Sunday’s comprehensive victory over Arizona went a ways toward deepening my belief.) For today’s exercise, I’m asking what y’all think. Vote early and often. Thanks in advance.

Coach QUinn needs to go -- hex -- bring back Bobby Petrino he cannot do a worse job then what Quinn has done this yr

Matt Ryan is a BUMB & he deserves to be Booed -- horrible game again as usual

The Falcons are folding like they did last yr -- they might go 9-7 at best given the Rams and 49ers are on the schedule -- They will lose to the Panthers and the Saints & they just might lose one of those Rams or 49er games.  8-8 again and Tampa is winning this division

Based on today (and the injuries), not very far. With 3 losses at home, it doesn't even look like they would win a home playoff game.

F DQ for chasing 2 pts when there were still plenty of time in the game. Crap like that that caused them to have to go for 2 again (and fail again) and lose the game

Never ever go for 2 and 'chase points' unless there is less than 2 minutes and you need them. Had they just kicked extra points they would have been up 30-27. Coach is a moron and must have an IQ around 80.

Can't win with their ineptitude in the red zone. Field goals won't cut it.

They have no defense and a suspect offense, really just a 500 team. This is Atlanta after all.

The Falcons will go as far as the offense takes them and the defense get's turnovers..

Matt Ryan and company will continue to roll. Defense better than stats. Many yards after games were in hand in trash time. Go birds!!

It's the Falcons. Of course they can win the division. but they probably won't.

Been watching since '66, and have stopped believing.

@919 Falcoholic  A Saints jersey offers more hope then a pee wee league Falcons jersey.  There is NO hope & they are not going to the playoffs

Most Super Bowl winners are not dominant on both sides of the ball. Denver was awful offensively last year. The Patriots didn't win either Super Bowl with a dominant defense(good but not dominant)  and the Saints didn't win with a dominant defense. If the Falcons defense was average, then they could beat any team in the league because their offense is dominant. I just don't believe it will happen this year with a defense that ranks in the bottom third against the run and the pass. Hope so but not counting on it.

I'm hoping Dallas runs out of luck by the playoffs and either us or somebody else beats the Seahawks. We end up in the Super Bowl vs the Raiders (more luck) who we've already beat this year.

Have you seen how Dallas is doingwith their rookie backup QB and rookie RB? I'm positive but not like a dawg fan, I understand our limitations.

Hope for the best, plan for the worst:

Giants, Vikings, Bucs, Redskins could all come here and win a playoff game.

Could Falcons go to Dallas and win a playoff game? Why not!

The defense must improve

RangeRover

Come playoffs, defenses win championships. Their defense can play with lighter, quicker finesse lines like  their own, the lightest OL in the NFL. But when they face an OL like the Cowboys have, they will get pushed all over the field, especially in the 4th quarter.

Their offense is championship caliber; their defense isn't. You need both.

I can see us winning the division ... hopefully we will line up vs someone like the Redskins and not the Giants in Round 1 ... and get a playoff win ... but no way could we beat Dallas or the Seahawks, especially on the road.

We have already beaten the Seahawks....refs cheated us.

The Falcons are going to have a hard time winning their division. To even mention them in the playoffs is premature. I think as of Sunday, the Falcons have the same record as last year at this stage of the season.

Ryan still threw what would have been an interception in the Red Zone. It was right in the hands of the defender and he dropped it. Had he not dropped it who knows what the outcome would have been. I'm pulling for the Falcons to do it but reality prevails.

It would have been an interception...but it wasn't. Why not mention the bobble by Julio that DID cause an interception?

Agree with u there 919. The Ryan haters will never see the real problem with this football team.

I think you are writing these type of articles WAY TO SOON once again Mark Bradley. I thought you would have learned your lesson from last season after your horrible Book It Danno Article, but I guess you have not.

The Bucs won yesterday, and they are currently one game behind the Falcons. We turn around and play the Chiefs, who will certainly give us a run for our money. The Saints are playing light out right now, and if we have one or two stumbles to finish the season (WHICH IS LIKELY) we may not even make the playoffs.

I would keep these stupid articles to a minimum until a true playoff picture comes to light.

919 Falcoholic

If I were you, I would keep negative comments to a minimum until a true reason to worry comes to light. Go ahead, reference the last few decades if you want and show me the correlation between then and now.

candlin14
candlin14

The correlation is our secondary which is one the worst in the league. Our dwindling defensive line which is even slimmer since Clayborne went out, our All Pro Receiver who has a crucial drop every single week, and I could go on.

Nothing negative here. Just stating facts. We are one game up in the division with 5 left to play. Far from a playoff appearance my friend.

Our offense is good enough to make it a couple of games I think. Our defense is getting much better...Beasley is in no way a bust.
