The schedule is softer. Will Tech be good enough for it to matter?

Georgia Tech’s schedule, just released, won’t be as tough next season. There’s no Florida State, for one thing. (Although FSU was the only team Tech beat after Sept. 12 last year.) There’s no Notre Dame, although there is Irish involved — Tech opens against Boston College in Dublin.

Clemson plays here, not there, and on a Thursday night. There’s no trip to Miami, where Tech hasn’t won under Paul Johnson. There are only four true road games, and one of those is in Athens. Counting Georgia, Tech will play three games against in-state opponents, Mercer and Georgia Southern being the other two.

Once past the trip to the Auld Sod — that’s Irish for Ireland — Tech leaves Atlanta only once before November. If you’re looking for a bounce-back schedule, this fits the bill. Except for one thing:

I don’t think Tech will be good enough to bounce very high. I’d say the Jackets will do well to go 7-5. But that’s just me, and I picked them to go 9-3 in 2015.

Maybe I should instead thank my college and pro teams for losing my interest and together saving me a lot of money.

Over/under should be at eight wins.  Lot of freshmen (true and RS) played last year. Tech always does better with lower expectations and a chip on its shoulder.

Dawgs fan below is correct. This season was not that difficult. We just stunk.

Bobby.... pj is horrible. In the last 7 or so years, he is averaging 7 wins!! Fact.

Time will tell if the new coach's philosophy is accepted and learned. Recruiting is getting better, year by year. PJ is not a idiot. He didn't forget how to coach. He just needs to adjust and adapt some. I'm believing he is. If there is one thing I have learned about Paul Johnson is that he does not like to lose. 2016 Jackets will be better!

One thing I love about this time of year is that everyone, for the 2016 season, is 0-0.  Let's play ball...

How does the fan base of Tech go from cheering a BCS (Orange Bowl) championship team to settling for any bowl game?

Just curious...

With this easy schedule, Tech should be able to get 8 wins and a bowl game somewhere good, hopefully warm.

can we block this year?

I don't know how it gets any softer than opening up with Tulane and Alcorn State but okay.  They basically had two extra weeks of preseason practice to get ready for the season.  A lot of good it did them obviously.

Mark as a Tech fan, you comment is sadly correct. I think you may be generous.

Dogs win 9 games next year....Oh wait! CMR did the same thing..

@TrueFan1  Mark Richt would win 9 games but we would lose the other 3 in embarrassing fashion.  If Kirby can avoid those bag over the head games that became a Mark Richt trademark that would be significant progress.

Do you have any reasons, Mark? Or are you gazing into some kind of magic eight ball?

I honestly don't think Bradley could pick the winner of a 1 man rock fight!.....who did he pick to win the SEC East last year?

But " that's just you" and we don't put much stock in

what you predict..

LOGS1973

That's you Bradley. You are a good old SEC homer looking

for dog bones to frame. Last year was a year GT should have won

at least 9 games. Let's move that prediction to 10-2..

They will boat race your leghumpers from Clarke county ...

Not only good enough, but more than good enough to include

boat racing the dogs from Athens.. You will love it Bradley.

Dogs have a tough SEC East schedule.. lol

Softer?.......did we move to the SEC East?

@TOJacket

If I recall Tech was 0-1 in the SEC east Last year.And 1 -7 in the ACC coastal. 1-0 in the SWAC and 1-0 in the American Football Conference.

@Buschleaguer @TOJacket What's softer?.....we don't have to beat FSU again?........the East team we played didn't perform near as well as the other teams on our schedule?

Held them to one TD, and still lost--for the 13th time in the past 15 games!

Gosh, you must be proud.

@tomkat1111 Great prediction for months before the game.  <eyeroll>  Given how poorly Georgia Southern fans comported themselves on the Flats during the last game, I hope Southern loses every game by double digits and the school shuts down the football program.

Buschleaguer

@Wrecker @tomkat1111

Thanks Wrecker,

Maybe you would prefer the Southern fans stay home, the Jackets must prefer playing at home with 15,000 empty seats every week.And if not for a reversed call made by an ACC replay official Southern would have come back from a 25 point deficit and beat the mighty wreck of tech,

Buschleaguer

@LOGS1973 @tomkat1111

What is tech? The cellar dweller in the mighty ACC Coastal. The only FBS School in the state that could not qualify to play in a bowl game.

Not if they want to play football on a team that Was Bowl eligible in 2015. And it is Statesboro , Home of  Beautiful Eagle Creek, and Beautiful CO-Eds ,something seriously lacking at the Trade School up North.

GT is much more than the dwags will ever attain. PLayers even take classes

other than home economics.. A football

mill like UGa purports to be should be

able to compete with Bama, LSU, ETC. Dogs are underachieving year after year.. A football mill????

@Buschleaguer @LOGS1973 @tomkat1111 By the way genius, the ACC is mighty..

You got that right.. They played for the NC  two weeks ago and nearly beat

the only SEC worth a damn..Oh, FSU was National Champions recently

weren't they.. Oh you knew that silly boy you.

Try harder bushleaguer..LOL
