Live from Jax: It’s windy, but UGA still should win

All looks calm, but it’s not. (M. Bradley)

All looks calm, but it's not. (M. Bradley)

All looks calm, but it’s not. (M. Bradley)

Jacksonville — It’s windy at EverBank Field. This could mean something. Then again, probably not. Georgia prefers to run the ball. Florida can’t throw it. Not much of a weather-induced edge there, if you ask me.

Traffic outside the stadium is its usually awful self, but it’s kind of hard to hype this game. Georgia is a pretty good team. Florida is a pretty bad one. Georgia should win without strain. Florida should find a new coach.

The sun’s out and it’s not supposed to rain, so we shouldn’t have a downpour game — as happened here in 1993, when Florida called the fateful timeout — or anything of major impact. (Unless you want to count Todd Gurley not playing, which I guess is still a big deal, although I’m getting used to it. And his teammates have done OK without him.)

The plane was a bit late from Hartsfield this morning, so I ducked in a cab and felt almost at home. Having just spent a week in England, I was treated to the radio broadcast (via Sirius XM) of Chelsea-Queens Park Rangers. Chelsea was leading. Chelsea is awesome.

Not sure if Georgia is quite awesome, but it’s better than Florida. Georgia 27, Florida 13.

With that, the figurative floor is open yet again. I welcome your company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

Richt is a fine man and human being. Bobo as well. But they have proved again they cannot deliver the preparation or decision-making to win big games at the elite level. Never more apparent than this time when a coach long-ridiculed as incompetent by friend and foe alike thoroughly, completely outcoaches the Georgia brain trust. Muschamp handled his rookie, first-start qb so brilliantly that CBS commentator Gary Danielson -the best in the business- could not stop talking about the tailor-made simplified game plan the Gators came up with. And we should note the unannounced record number of times Florida repeated the same two running plays, especially the ones to the edge, which we apparently conceded. Work it out with Richt and start looking at guys like Gary Patterson at TCU who are making much more out of much less than the consistently high UGA talent level.

Seven hours since the last post.  I guess I get to beat the dead horse.  Heard a lot of impartial pundits describe UGA's play as uninspired.  That's kind of them. Inspiration or lack of same doesn't explain a humiliation like that.  UF's a better team than UGA.  Not just yesterday.

This was a beat down like we haven't seen since 2007 and 2008.  Epochal might be the SAT word that describes it.

I hope Hutson Mason can recover from this.  Of all who represented the Dawgs football program yesterday, he's the only one I can muster any sympathy for.  Like Joe Cox before him, he's a kid who waited his turn.  He didn't get an opportunity to start until his final year of eligibility.

Mason ain't the reason the Dawgs lost.  The Richt-managed program is the reason the Dawgs lost.  A program somebody yesterday described as a subtle failure.

Congrats again to Tampa Gator's team.

And OH-IO, you have a nice day.  You need one.

Losing to a loser. Time for yet another gut check in Athens. Look at who SC has lost to and who UF has lost to and then ask who laid down on the job.

How embarrassing.  I think UGA needs to hire another ACC coordinator to make them relevant in the SEC.

The SEC East is such a disgrace unless UF is dominant and I can't stand UF.

Let's see an OSU fan is on here talking about UGA, when his 'team' is on tv.  Yea, that makes a lot of sense.  Maybe you should just change your name to GA-TE

This won't hurt Gurley's chances of winning the Heisman Trophy will it?

UF had 27 yds passing.  But coach boom said it best after the game, "we didn't pass because we didn't need to pass.

UF scores 2 late TD against Mizz and then runs wild against UGA.  An all round bad defensive effort.

I haven't seen a QB on any other team this year who cannot look down field and throw with authority. I'm not even talking about completions either. It's pretty frustrating watching Mason now.

DawgnIT
DawgnIT

Bobo wants to throw but doesn't trust his own QB. That begs the question of why is Mason in there?

Mobile Dawg
Mobile Dawg

@DawgnIT  Damned if you do, damned if you don't.  It wasn't in Bobo's game plan to throw the ball today, I agree Mason isn't a golden arm QB, but Bobo really never game him much of a chance.  And neither did the Oline.

You know, I've been watching UGA for a lot of years and Richt consistently abandons the running game whenever he gets down a couple of scores. After all this time in the SEC he just doesn't seem to get that you keep running to wear down defenses extend possessions.

Mobile Dawg
Mobile Dawg

@DawgnIT  I think it goes both ways, I don't think Mason trusts himself.  He held it a lot of times when it looked like he had opportunities downfield.  He just doesn't seem comfortable.

Mobile Dawg
Mobile Dawg

@GATiger  Richt is wishy washy, in a lot of ways.  As a HC, he's in over his head and he knows it.  His performance and decisions show it.  He's uncomfortable in the spotlight, my opinion.

Maybe the dwags should wear the clown uniforms they wore a few years ago when they beat Boise State in the Dome.

Oh wait, they lost that game too.

Doesn't Tech change uniforms like every other season?

The dwags didn't even have to worry about defending against the pass, and they still couldn't hold the Gators. Maybe Preacher Man should speed dial Grantham and beg him to come back.

@Princess_Leia See ya in Athens Princesspool Larry.. Won't have to worry about defending agaist the pass then either...

Remember...some SEC and NC teams in the last 15 years are still looking for their first signature win (TENN) under new coaches and visions...go butch

MAJ DAWG

I have not heard the presser; imagine CMR takes responsibility; i think the Dawgs will be up agianst UK and AUB. We'll finish 10-2, and maybe sneak into ATL. Even if our offense glues, all starters are healthy, and etc...I don't know if we have a SEC championship defense, nor will we this season...improved and with more structure/discipline & assignments (not today), but better than the Grantham goonies

Dawgsandbones9
Dawgsandbones9

10-2?

Keep dreaming.

My goodness, Florida rishes for 418 and you think this sorry coached team will beat the best rushing team in the conference the last two years?

Get outta here.

Oh, and there is not goal of winning the sec east now, either, because MIZZOU isn't losing two more SEC games.

Mobile Dawg
Mobile Dawg

@MAJ DAWG  We were really outplayed badly, in every phase of the game today, on top of that it seemed like almost everything went against us.

It will be interesting to see whether Richt takes responsibility, or just deflects to the old we win as a team, we lose as a team.  My guess is the latter,  I can't ever remember MR taking responsibility.

He should quit studying "cutting edge football" and start coaching it.  I'm tired of hearing about how he let's his Coordinators make the decisions, looks like they are now responsible for two losses this year.

GATiger

You're dreaming, MAJ DAWG. They won't beat Auburn and a UK is a close call in Lex.

Mobile Dawg

@GATiger  That's where your dreaming Tiger, that's exactly what Richt and his teams do.  They lay an egg, then slay a tiger.  You never know who's going to show up.
